How to Password Protect a PDF
Protecting a PDF with a password helps prevent unauthorized people from opening and viewing the document. With DebTech's PDF password protection tool, you can create an encrypted PDF directly from your browser.
- Select the PDF you want to protect.
- Enter a password of at least 4 characters.
- Enter the same password again in the confirmation field.
- Click Protect PDF.
- Download the protected PDF and use your password to open it.
How Does PDF Password Protection Work?
The uploaded PDF is processed on the DebTech server using PDF encryption. The password you provide is used when the protected PDF is generated. The resulting file requires the password when it is opened in a compatible PDF reader.
Can I Protect an Already Password-Protected PDF?
No. An encrypted or password-protected PDF cannot be processed directly by this tool. Unlock the PDF first and then upload the unlocked version if you want to apply a new password.
PDF Password Protection and Privacy
Your password is sent to the server only as part of the PDF protection request. The generated protected PDF is returned to your browser for download. The tool does not intentionally save the uploaded PDF as a permanent file.
PDF Protection Limits
- Maximum PDF size: 25 MB
- Password length: at least 4 characters
- Only PDF files are accepted
- Already encrypted PDFs must be unlocked before processing
